Prayers Are Answered

This morning in my driver’s ed class, I was studying with one of my friends. We were quizzing each other on homework questions, and we began to tell stories about car accidents we had been in. I told him about an accident I had been in (my mom wrote a post about it on her blog, My Way Home Life), and I said that God must have protected us in that experience. He told me about several accidents he and his family members had been involved with, and said that someone, probably God, had probably been looking out for them too.

Then, we moved on with our studying. It wasn’t until afterward that I realized what a perfect opportunity that was to say, “So, does that mean you believe in God? What do you know about God?” And so on. We had plenty of time left. But it didn’t even cross my mind!

Nevertheless, I had prayed specifically multiple times that day for a witnessing opportunity. When I got such an obvious one, it caught me off guard! It reminds me of a post I wrote just last week about some Bible characters who were caught off guard by the answer to their prayers.

I’m not going to beat myself up about not noticing the opportunity God gave me, but I hope it will give me more faith in the future. He did indeed answer my request. Instead, I’m grateful that I could bring up God at all. Many days go by in which I pray that I’ll have a chance and I never do. Or maybe I just don’t see that I do. Either way, I’m growing in my faith, and that alone gives me joy!

This verse of “Whisper a Prayer” came to mind after I wrote this.

God answers prayer in the morning,
God answers prayer at noon;
God answers prayer in the ev’ning,
To keep your heart in tune.

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. – Mark 11:24

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. – Psalms 37:4

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. – John 15:16 (KJV)

  1. Yes, and it was fun. There was a time, a few days before Christmas, when a co-worker confided in me her desire to buy her small children a Bible story book, but finances were limited. My only chance to help her involved getting away from work early that day, which was unlikely, as at least four people would be given the chance to leave before me. Discouraged, I went through the next two hours or so, and then— my manager asked if I wanted to leave early! Wide-eyed and laughing, I could have floated to the nearest bookstore πŸ™‚ . I was still smiling when I bought the book and headed back. With God, there’s always a way!

    Yes. I have been caught off guard and like you have missed opportunities. You are completely right not to beat yourself up about it. God will give you another opportunity and you can still pray that the person has another encounter with someone or even that you get another chance. We serve a God of second chances. And third. And fourth. And so on. He loves us and allows us to try again.
