Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. – Ecclesiastes 2:11, KJV
A couple days ago, I began to study Ecclesiastes. It occurred to me that many unsaved people may feel as Solomon (the author of Ecclesiastes) did.
I have thought before about what my life would be like had I never come to know Jesus. What would be the point of life? I don’t know. I think many people ignore thoughts of eternity, choosing to think of the here and now only; other people have contemplated how meaningless life is without God and have become depressed.
Have you come to that point? Do you feel that life is pointless? If it’s true that we are born, we live, we die, and we cease to exist, then life is meaningless. Why should anything matter?
But that isn’t true. The truth is that God made you. You matter to him. God loves you, and God is perfect. Sadly, every person has broken God’s laws. Breaking God’s laws is called sinning, and sin separates you from God. If you sin, you can’t go to heaven when you die because heaven is perfect. Instead, you’ll go to a horrible place called hell.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. – Romans 6:23
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. – Matthew 25:46
Because God loves you, he sent his perfect Son, Jesus, to die in your place the worst death anyone has ever died. He took your penalty for sin on himself. Then, three days after he died, he came to life again! He did this so that you can live a purpose-filled life for him, then go to heaven when you die.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16
To receive forgiveness through Jesus and begin a life for him, all you need to do is pray. Admit to God that you have sinned, believe that Jesus died and rose again for you, ask him to come into your heart and forgive you, and commit to following him. If you pray that and truly mean it, then you’ll go to heaven when you die!
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Life does have meaning, but only if you follow Jesus. He is the fulfillment you are looking for. Just as this week’s verse says, nothing in the world will fill the void in your life. Only Jesus.

Amen, Shae! God created each and everyone of us for a purpose and plan according to His will. We are His masterpiece and creation, which, Jesus saved by dying on the cross for our sins. Despite the sins we commit and how we are imperfect, God loves us no matter what. ❤
