A Small Victory

The other day, I was feeling really annoyed at my little brother. He wasn’t doing anything wrong, but we have different personalities, we had been together a lot, and therefore he began to get on my nerves.

I knew it wasn’t right to be snappy with him, but I couldn’t help feeling that way. I was tired. I was sick of his non-stop chatter. I have such a rough life. 😭

You know, the whole pity party thing.

But like I said, I knew it was wrong. I wanted to change how I felt, but I couldn’t seem to. Then, having decided enough was enough, I changed how I was acting toward him on the outside. Even if I can’t change how I feel, I don’t have to be a jerk, I thought. After that, however, the funniest thing happened. My attitude on the inside did change. I stopped feeling so selfish and started to see things in a better light.

God definitely had everything to do with it. He knew that I didn’t want to be mean, and when I tried my best to do what was right, he changed my attitude. Even though this may be a small victory, it is still a victory. I’m growing every day.

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: – James 2:8, KJV

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. – Galatians 6:9, KJV

But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. – Psalm 22:19, KJV

Have you had a small victory lately?

It may seem like a small victory but little victories day by day pile up. We can always “get a transfer” when we’re struggling with a bad attitude. Thank you for an encouraging story!

  6. That is so true. An attitude adjustment on the outside can help on the inside. I love how God honors our efforts to be more like him!

My sister and I are sometimes like that. But we love each other. Thanks for this post, super good/relatable! Tiny victories include getting over certain fears, (like the dark, etc.)

I know exactly how you feel. I have 3 kids and after a long shift at work I just want to sit down, but instead I’m thrown into their chaos and putting the house back together the second I get home. I get annoyed eaisly that I’m stuck in this loop, but then I remember they are just kids. It comes with the territory. I’m still working on getting to that level of acceptance, but your words are encouraging. Thank you and God bless

  10. This is a huge victory, for our LORD does nothing small 🙂 He was just waiting on you, like He waits on all of us to TRY to do the right thing. Like when He tells us to love our enemy, pray for those that despise us. Not that this was the case with you and your brother 🙂 But it shows us if we will try to do the right thing, God will do the heavy lifting for us 🙂 This is a blessing to read, and a true testament to the Power of God. If we are willing, He is able to make it happen. What a great share Shae. Not many people would say what you said. You not only let the LORD work through you, but you shared that Good Work with others and it will help them 🙂 Praise the LORD!

      1. It was the LORD for sure but you remind us that we must be willing. Willing to try, and willing to go with the attitude that the LORD rewards us with when we try.

First of all, I know all about pity parties, which just do happen to be a theme in my blog post later today, ha. Second of all, good advice! It’s a spin on “Fake it ’til you make it.” What I’ve been working on lately is holding my tongue. A sarcastic or even cruel comment I make in the annoyance of the moment is usually something I regret later. While it’d be ideal to just not get angry over things, that’s tough, so I’m starting by learning to stew IN SILENCE. :p
