The Two-sided Deal

A while ago, I was thinking about what I would do if I received the opportunity to lead someone to Christ. I realized that I wasn’t entirely sure what to say! After that, I compiled a list of verses about salvation, put them in an order that made sense, and memorized the list of references. Here they are:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. – Romans 6:23, KJV

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; – Romans 3:23, KJV

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: – Romans 3:10, KJV

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16, KJV

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, KJV

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8, KJV

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. – Romans 10:13, KJV

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. – John 3:18, KJV

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV

Doing that taught me to be prepared. If I’m not ready to lead someone to Jesus, will he give me opportunities to do so? If he does, and I’m not ready, what do I do then?

It’s like any part of the Christian life; it’s a two-sided deal. If we don’t take a step, God won’t make a path. If we don’t surrender, God won’t take control. If we don’t ask, God won’t listen. If we don’t train or equip ourselves, God won’t send us to battle.

How has God prepared you?

  1. This use to be a fear of mine, but the Lord has shown me that there’s no “cookie cutter” way in doing so, because we never know where people are, nor what they’re facing. But when we’re in that place with the Lord, and I believe that you are, He’ll give us the words to say. Case and point: Even as I began to respond to this message I literally didn’t have the words, but I felt compelled to respond and the Lord just reminded me of two instances in scripture that will help.

Trust in and rely on the Helper, the Holy Spirit!

As Jesus was preparing the disciples for a life of ministry He taught them saying, “Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. 12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Luke 12:11-12

Also, after Pentecost something amazingly powerful happened…
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance….Acts 2:4…..Then in Acts 2:14…..But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said….

At this moment Peter delivered such a powerful message that it cut their hearts and they simply said, “Men and Brethren, what must we do” Acts 2:37

      1. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

  3. Good job!
I like Romans 5:8 because it covers the sin of man, love of God, and sacrifice of Christ all in one verse. I also like Isaiah 53:5:
“But He was wounded for our transgressions,
    He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.” NKJV

Good preparation! I have a Bible in which I go to Romans 3:23 and there I made a note to myself to go to Romans 6. And so on until I have completed the verses that I need to share. Sometimes people need to see the verses, not just have me say them.

This is so true! God has a path for us. We just have to trust Him with our life and let Him really take control of what He has in store for us. We aren’t to lean on our own understanding because don’t know all things. Only He knows what is best for us! 💕
