But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. – Matthew 6:33, KJV
This is my dad’s favorite verse! I love it too.
One of three first things I thought of when I read this was an anecdote about George Müller, the English evangelist. One morning, he and his orphans had quite literally nothing to eat. Müller lifted up his hands and thanked God for the food that he would provide!
Then, someone knocked on the door. A baker stood there. He said he had awoken in the middle of the night and had a feeling that the orphanage would need food, so he had been baking bread since 2 a.m.
Next, the milkman knocked and said his cart had broken down right out front. He needed to get rid of the milk so that he could fix his cart!
That’s just one of many true stories that demonstrate God’s provision. And as Matt. 6:33 says, these things happen when we seek God first. We need to step into the wilderness, and God will show us a path. He may not reveal the path if we show no interest in walking it.
