How to Love Your Enemies… Like a Cat

My dad and my cat really don’t get along. When Miss Potter found us, my dad really didn’t want to keep her, but he let us have her because he is such a good guy.

Anyway, they haven’t grown on each other at all in the eight years we have owned her, lol! She darts away if he comes too close, and they exchange dirty looks on a regular basis.

But my dad has been sick the past few days. He hasn’t been able to work since Tuesday and he’s had to just lie down in the house. Have you ever heard of cats (or any animals) that can sense when you are hurting? I heard of a cat who sat right on top of where a person had a tumor.

So last night, Dad was lying on the couch, and Miss Potter actually jumped up on him and settled into a happy, fluffy bundle. We were all in the living room and were absolutely shocked when she did that! πŸ˜‚ Dad just stared at her, and we explained that animals sometimes sit on you when you are hurt. He was like, “Thanks, Cat, but…” And shoved her off.

But what got me about the whole funny thing was that, although Miss Potter really dislikes Dad, she tried to love her “enemy” just as Jesus instructs us to do.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; -Matthew 5:44, KJV

I’m not saying my dad is mean to her at all, but she knows he doesn’t like her, and yet she did what she could to help him. We could all learn a little something from that, I think.

Are you a cat lover?

How have you learned to love your enemies?

  2. I just love that Miss P. gave it a shot with Dad. He was so surprised, I thought he might actually let her stay.😊 I imagine it would shock those in our lives who don’t care for us if we went out of our way to be kind to them. In fact, you have inspired me to do just that.
